Flexible magnet depicting the stairs of Patreos Street in the city of Patras.

The first stairs in Patras were built in 1873. They were the Patreos Stairs, which connect Patreos Street with Agios Georgios Square and have 93 steps.

The stairs on Patreos Street were built of marble, as this material was abundant in Patras from very early on and, of course, there was no shortage of skilled craftsmen.

The steps were also used in this case to connect the upper city—where mostly poor rural families and some large landowners lived—with the lower city with its many squares, where the bourgeoisie and industrialists lived.
