The Fiery Ascent of the Prophet Elijah is one of the most striking and awe-inspiring events of the Old Testament. Elijah, who came from Tishbe in Gilead, was destined from a young age for his prophetic mission, as foretold by a divine vision seen by his father. Throughout his long journey, he fervently opposed idolatry promoted by Queen Jezebel. At the end of his earthly life, he was taken up to heaven alive in a chariot of fire, drawn by three flaming horses. This miraculous event took place on the banks of the Jordan River, in the presence of his disciple Elisha.
