Honorary Event on the Olympic Ideals of the Timeless Marathon Runners of Patras

“WE WERE BORN RUNNERS”

The Association of Fine Arts of Patras “Kostis Palamas”, the Cultural and Olympic Center, and the Walking, Running and Marathon Club “Phaethon” are jointly organizing an event.

Within the framework of the celebrations for the Lighting of the Olympic Flame in Patras, and ahead of the Winter Olympic Games “Milan 2026”, we honor the Olympic ideals of the timeless marathon runners of Patras, at the elegant Gallery Odeio hall of the Cultural and Olympic Center “Kostis Palamas”, on Thursday, November 27, at 18:30, at P. P. Germanou 30.

WE PROMOTE – WE HIGHLIGHT – WE ESTABLISH

A special video will be presented with ERT narrators, music by Alexandros Chachalis, and curation by Theodoros and Sofia Mallias, titled:
“The Timeless and Global Symbols of the Achaean Land”.

An audiovisual lecture will be delivered by Dr. Theodoros Mallias on the following themes:

• Promoting and supporting UNESCO recognition of Kostis Palamas’ Olympic Hymn as World Cultural Heritage
• Highlighting Patras as an International City of the Olympic Hymn and Torch Relay
• Establishing Western Greece as the “Land of Olympia”

Video: “Legendary Moments of the Olympic Spirit in the Modern Olympic Games”, curated by writer Theodoros Mallias

HONORARY AWARDS
Awards will be presented to the timeless marathon runners of Patras, accompanied by the commemorative volume titled:
“The Artists Create Culture”.

The event will conclude with the playing of the Olympic Hymn, first performed at the inaugural Flame Lighting ceremony at the Kostis Palamas residence, and later established as part of the Olympic tradition.

The event will be hosted by distinguished journalists and presenters:
Panagiotis Rigopoulos and Achilleas Papadionysiou.
